Dr Bill Bailey qualified from Cambridge University and St Mary’s Hospital, London, in 1987. He undertook surgical and anaesthetic training in Leicester, Oxford and Reading before commencing a training programme in Emergency Medicine at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, in 1993.
He was appointed Consultant and Clinical Lead in Emergency Medicine at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in 1997 and has worked there ever since.
Dr Bailey has a particular interest in Trauma and has instructed on Advanced Trauma Life Support [ATLS] courses for over 20 years and was Trauma Lead at Chesterfield for a similar period. In 2020, he was awarded ‘Trauma Cases Expert Witness of the Year in the UK’ by Global Advisory Experts.
Dr Bailey has been the Clinical Director of Emergency Care and Acute Medicine and Clinical Director of Orthopaedics at Chesterfield prior to his retirement from managerial work in 2019.
Outside of his clinical and operational work in Chesterfield, Dr Bailey sat on the Council of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine for 4 years and is a College Examiner.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Emergency Medicine Journal. Dr Bailey regularly provides the Police and CPS with Expert reports through his work for the National Crime Agency. He became Clinical Director of Genome in 2020.
